3 Flavoring Secrets for Healthier Meals

Everyone’s trying to eat healthier these days. It’s hard to eat right, work out, and still juggle work and family and everything else life throws at us every day!

That being said, healthier meals are always worth striving for. Being healthy isn’t just about what you eat, it’s a lifestyle change, and we’ve got a few tips for adding flavor to food that might otherwise feel a bit uninspired. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be bland!


Flavoring Secret #1: Add More Herbs

Herbs are your friend, especially if you’re trying to eat healthy. Herbs impart a ton of concentrated flavor and freshness that you simply can’t get anywhere else. They’re great chopped, worked into side dishes and soups, and dried, incorporated into frittatas and sauces. Papa Cantella’s premium sausages are made with fresh herbs for the most flavor possible, including classics like basil, thyme, and fennel seed. Eating right doesn’t mean you have to cut out the bold flavors you get from “unhealthy” ingredients like butter or cream, it just means finding other ways to add personality to your dishes.

They include buying whole wheat pasta, using brown rice instead of white, and incorporating more plant-heavy side dishes into our meals like our incredibly low carb Cauliflower Mash. All the filling flavor, fewer blood sugar spikes!

Flavoring Secret #3: Build Around Protein

Protein is an essential component of a healthy diet. For us, it’s always been easiest to build our meals around protein, and the best protein source we know of is sausage.
