This Memorial Day, think bolder.
Go beyond bland boiled ‘dogs and lifeless burger patties to take your cookout up a notch. Your guests are looking for big flavor and a good time…it’s your job to give it to them!
Here are three fantastic ideas for spicing up your Memorial Day cookout – and maybe even starting a new tradition.
- Upgrade the Grilled Fare
The easiest way to boost your barbecue is to take the food to a new level. Papa Cantella’s premium sausages use quality meats and fresh-blended spices to pack a punch; there’s a flavor for every guest! Literally spice things up with Hot Italian Sausage & Pepper sandwiches instead of hot dogs, or give beer-lovers something to salivate over with our Double Barrel Ale-infused Beer Bratwurst. If you’re going for something a little more refined, consider serving sweet-tart Chicken Apple Sausages with sautéed cabbage. If you can’t see yourself straying too far from the time-honored Memorial Day tradition, simply upgrade the standard “burger and dog” selection with Old Fashioned Natural Casing Beef Hot Dogs and angus ground beef patties. You can’t go wrong!
- Go Family Style
No one’s expecting a casual, family style meal at a Memorial Day cookout! Take a cue from some of the great social eating traditions by offering your guests a memorable eating experience. Huge bowls of Papa’s Penne Puttanesca, Italian Sausage Meatballs and spaghetti, and fresh Italian salad eaten al fresco give the holiday an Italian slant. Or, why not go all out with a shrimp boil in the backyard instead of grilled food? All you need is a giant pot, some shrimp, corn, and potatoes, and cut up Louisiana Style Pork Andouille Sausage to make things authentic. Pour it all out on the picnic table for a show everyone will be talking about for the rest of the year.
- Make it a Potluck
Take some of the pressure off of hosting and see what everyone’s best at! Everybody brings their superstar dish to a potluck, and guests love to feel like they’re contributing. Ask everyone to bring a main dish, a side, or a dessert to share with the group and find out everything you wanted to know about your friends’ tastes. As the host, it’s smart to provide a little something in each category “just in case.” We suggest a sweet and spicy Italian Sausage appetizer, a New Orleans style muffaletta, and a fruit-based cake. And don’t worry about whether or not the menu makes sense! Just enjoy the comradery that communal food invites.
You don’t have to get too far outside the box to turn this year’s party into an event. Memorial Day is a great time to invite some friends, watch the fireworks, and be grateful for the opportunity to live together in such a wonderful country.
From your friends at Papa Cantella’s, Happy Memorial Day!
