1. New Orleans Style Sausage Muffaletta Sandwich
There’s nothing better than a well-placed sandwich at the height of barbecue glory. Our New Orleans inspired Muffaletta offers the best in savory sausage flavoring with a French Quarter flair. We recommend our full bodied flavors to pair with your muffalettas. Try our hot and sweet Italian sausages to complement this recipe.
1 Pound Fresh Italian Sausage Links
1 Large Loaf of Italian or French Bread
4 Slices of Provolone Cheese
8 Thin Slices of Italian Salami
1-½ Cup of New Orleans Style Olive Salad
Step One: Broil or bake sausage to perfection.
Step Two: When broiled or baked, cut each sausage in half lengthwise.
Step Three: Cut the ends of your loaf of bread (save the scraps for wildlife feeding!) and cut the remainder into four equal pieces. Each slice should measure about 3 ½ by 5 inches.
Step Four: Cut each slice of bread in half.
Step Five: Hull out the center of each slice to your liking.
Step Six: On the bottom piece of bread slather one tablespoon of New Orleans style olive salad.
Step Seven: Time to assemble your sandwiches! Place the halved sausage slices to rest on your olive spread. Add a slice of cheese and two slices of salami on top. Spoon another helping of olive salad on top.
Step Eight: The glory is here! Place the top part of your bread on your muffaletta and enjoy.
2. Italian Sausage Kebab
Here’s our take on one of the tastiest cookout classics! Kebabs offer great versatility for offering your guests succulently grilled veggies like peppers and onions– pineapples even, if you’ve got a taste for adventure! Try pairing our kebabs with a refreshing sausage Caesar salad or a savory rice pilaf dish.
1 Pound Fresh Italian Sausage Links
1 Large Onion
2 Green Bell Peppers
2 Fresh, Ripe Tomatoes
½ Fresh Whole Mushrooms
¼ Cup Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon of Red Wine Vinegar
Step One: Cut sausage links into thirds.
Step Two: Cut onion into wedges.
Step Three: Cut bell peppers into eighths.
Step Four: Cut tomatoes into eighths.
Labor Day Kebab Directions:
Step One: Arrange your pre-cut meat and veggie selections for skewering. We love to alternate between meat and veggies for a full bodied flavor while taking advantage of alternating textures. (Paying close attention to texture is just one way to play-up your Labor Day barbecue masterpieces.)
Step Two: Combine the olive oil and red wine vinegar in a medium sized bowl. Mix together until well combined for basting.
Step Three: Take your assembled kebabs and barbecue or broil for approximately sixteen to eighteen minutes. Remember to keep an eye on the temperature, basting and rotating often for maximum flavor!
Step Four: Elevate your kebab game by pairing with a side all your guests will love! We recommend our Mardi Gras small dinner salad recipe or saffron pilaf. If you’re having a large party, why not give your guests both selections? (You never know who's trying to avoid starch or who’s vying to incorporate more vegetables into their diet.)
3. Savory Southwestern Sausage Burritos
We’ve reworked our classic southwestern sausage burrito to accompany your Labor Day barbecue celebration! We originally slated this recipe for the frying pan, but feel free to switch out your stove top for your grill! (In fact, we recently rolled out the secrets on how to grill the perfect Italian sausage.)
1 Pound Fresh Turkey or Chicken Italian Sausage Links
1 Tablespoon of Butter
1 Cup Chicken Broth
1 Cup Ripe Tomatoes
4 Green Onions
½ Cup Fresh Cilantro
1 ¼ Tablespoons of Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
6 Burrito Sized Flour Tortillas
2 ½ Ounces of Monterey Jack Cheese
2 ½ Ounces of Cheddar Cheese
Step One: Peel, seed, and chop tomatoes.
Step Two: Chop green onions.
Step Three: Chop cilantro.
Step Four: Grate monterey jack and cheddar cheeses together.
Southwestern Sausage Burrito Directions:
Step One: Swap your frying pan (or don’t) for your grill and cook your sausages in butter over medium heat for eight to ten minutes. Remember to turn your links a few times. We recommend our delicious flavor profiles in our hot and Italian turkey selections as well as our chicken grill combo featuring both of our signature apple and mozzarella cheese flavors for the best of both in savory and sweet!
Step Two: Add the chicken broth– if you’re cooking on a grill, consider bathing your sausages beforehand to take advantage of the full-bodied taste the broth lends to our overarching flavor profile.
Step Three: Add your tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro to the mix. If you’ve opted in for grilling, add those components to your bath as well.
Step Four: Cook your sausages on medium to high heat, adjusting accordingly.
Step Five: Stir in the lime juice. For those grilling, add the lime juice to your sausage bath.
Step Six: Warm your tortillas in advance of filling them for added warmth and taste. Pop them in the oven or on the grill!
Step Seven: Once your tortillas are warmed up, add the veggie combo and a liberal amount of grated cheese. (Because who ever has enough cheese?)
Step Eight: Fold in three sides of your tortilla; start from the bottom to capture any juices and enjoy! Feel free to pair your Labor Day burritos with fresh avocado, sour cream, and salsa as desired!
